What if…

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

It’s been nearly 4 years since I left the country of my birth. Sometimes I do think about my future here. Back home I could work, I could have my own career. Back home my Law Degree means something. Here, it’s just a piece of paper with little value. Sad, isn’t it? When I see some of my friends being banking lawyers, syariah lawyers, public prosecutors (we don’t have Mesothelioma lawyer though) , and some law assistants, I can’t help but feel a little envious. But funny that once one of them voiced out her envy of my being a housewife and living in a foreign land. So I know I’m not so bad off.

What if I didn’t come here? Would I be a lawyer? Perhaps.

Over worked laptop.

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

It’s 6.52 am and I’m here in front of my laptop, checking emails, reading news, twitting, and drinking my coffee. Oh yeah, also checking out my downloads that has been on over night.

I have to admit, ever since I got my new laptop earlier this year, I’ve been over working it. Day and night, and only rest in sleep mode everyday so I can log on to it easily everytime.  Thinking about it, perhaps I should have got that extended laptop warranty which was offered when I bought it.

My old computer lasted me 7 years. How long will this laptop be of service to me? Only time will tell.

Good wife.

  1. Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal (especially his favorite dish) is part of the warm welcome needed.
  2. Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.
  3. Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.
  4. Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dust cloth over the tables.
  5. Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
  6. Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet.
  7. Be happy to see him.
  8. Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.
  9. Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first – remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.
  10. Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.
  11. Your goal: To try and make sure your home is a place of peace, order, and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.
  12. Don’t greet him with complaints and problems.
  13. Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
  14. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
  15. Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
  16. A good wife always knows her place.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I found this article not to long ago. Though there are things that I agree with the list, but I have to say that some of them do portray the woman to be a little too submissive, don’t you think? Well, I suppose what the society thinks of a wife’s role back in the 50′s is really different from what we think now. I wonder too whether the women those days would try to find the best weight loss supplement as how we the women of today would. :) Perhaps not, with all the things they had to do at home without the help of so many appliances that we have today.I suppose they worked out a lot doing household work and entertaining their husbands and children.
Living without news?
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010
The first 2  things that I’d do everytime I go online are check my emails, and read the news. Is it me or does anyone else notice that most things that got onto the news headlines are negative news and stories? Children murdered, some famous people  just kicked the bucket, landslide here, tornado there and more.
I am quite a sensitive person actually. I’m not exaggerating when I say that some news can really make me feel a bit depressed for a day or more. Recently, I watched an interview of a Hindi actress from the 70s and 80s, Rekha. She told her interviewer that she never read/listened/watched the news. Her reason was because most news are bad news and she doesn’t need the extra negativities to burden her emotionally.
Many times I considered to stop checking out the news. No news, live in ignorance and bliss. Rather read diet pills reviews all day long rather than reading about disheartening news. But being a curious person and wanting to know things, I wonder whether I can live without reading the news. I know I’d be itching to click on the news feed and find out what’s going on in the world.
Well, life is all about choices indeed. I’d rather be a depressed but a person who knows about what’s going on in the world rather than a happy ignoramus .
Hair talk.
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010
Looking at the mirror in front of me next to my laptop, I just wonder whether I should just let it grow long or it is time for a visit to the salon. The longest lenght of hair was down to my waist when I was 19.  I had to keep my hair short due to hair loss problem. Now that I see that it is under control, perhaps I should grow it long again.
When I had a problem with hair loss, I turned to the internet to find for the solution. That’s when I found this cool forum – talk.hairboutique.com. It’s where ladies (and gents) who are concern about their hairs hang out, share informations, hair news, and solutions. It’s the place where I found out about vatika coconut hair oil, the benefit of tea tree oil shampoo, and other natural home remedies.
I guess it’s time for me to hang out more on that forum again if I want to find information on how to keep my hair long, strong and healthy. :)
An uphill journey.
Not being  geniuses, many of us sure have to work hard for everything. Learning new things all the time. Right now I wish I had learnt more things while I was a teen or single. Then I wouldn’t have to juggle learning with work and family.
I’m on my 4th day of learning how to trade with a demo account. While trading, I blog, or do some Japanese studying or read more on trading.  Lost 1600 dollars on the 2nd day, made some 500 dollars on the 3rd. Today, I’m hoping to get back what I’ve lost perhaps or at least not lose more. It is  like a game that I need to get used to and learn more in the process. The first couple of days I didn’t even know what I was doing – click here and click there and see what happens. :) Today I’m a bit more learned.Still so much to learn.
Forex lessons.
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
While waiting for the little one to finish her bath in the tub, here I am blogging and reading something about forex.  I’ve started to learn about forex not too long ago but had to stop due to my Japanese studies and other things. I must say there are quite many things to be read and understood before one embarks into trading in foreign exchange.
After a lot of pressure from my husband telling me that I should learn how to trade, so right now, I’m browsing through the materials and choosing which one to print out to be read later. Unfortunately it isn’t too comfortable for me to read something for long periods of time on the computer screen.
Well, let’s see how this goes.
P/s: running low on ink right now after all the printing done for my Japanese lessons and forex reading materials. Just hope I will buy the right ink cartridge this time. I ordered the wrong one last time that I had to resell it on ebay. Hmmm, was it a 108R00723 or a 108R00605??
Anime day!
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
Sent the little one off to kindergarten earlier today so we could do our shopping early and go back home early too. While standing at
the cashier, eyeing one item after another going through the barcode scanner, I thought about how I would spend my day today besides doing the normal household chores.
It has been ages since I last watched an anime. Months actually. I saw only one Japanese drama couple of weeks ago. It is essential that I watch some Japanese programmes just to sharpen my listening skills as a Japanese language student. I still don’t understand a lot, but once I managed to pick up some words I’d feel pretty happy that I learnt something at least in class. :)
So it is settled then. After lunch and doing the household chores and cleaning, I’d make myself comfy and watch some animes. :P
In search for the right bargain.
Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
My search for the best priced Ipod has begun. I’m looking forward to own my first Apple product that I’ve even downloaded the itunes software on my computer. :) Now is the time I really need something like one of those insurance quote websites. Best priced offer all on one website.
As opposed to what I have decided earlier,I won’t be getting the 4th generation one, but I may be getting the 3rd generation instead. Why? Because I don’t think I need the extra features like facetime and HD camera. I have my Lumix for video and picture taking, and I don’t know anyone else who owns an iphone or ipod with facetime. After all, the first important reason why I wanted one is because of the Japanese dictionary application.
Addiction detoxification.
Thursday, September 9th, 2010
Living in moderation is the way to go. Being addicted to anything can be a bad thing regardless of what one is addicted to. Even when when somebody is addicted to eating can be dangerous yet alone being addicted to drugs. Reading about the various methods of drug rehabilitation, it is a little bit harsh. Like the cold turkey method where one will be locked in a room alone and let to suffer the withdrawal until he or she no longer has the cravings.
However, nowadays there are more and more humane and safe way to overcome addiction. One of them is opiate detox. As explained on the rapiddetoxlasvegas.com website, the method for opiate detoxification that they actually uses advanced medical technique where the withdrawal process of the patient is speed up under anesthesia. I suppose this way, the patient wouldn’t have to go through all the pains of physical withdrawal yet get rid of their addiction quicker.
It is all good that we have such advance humane medical techniques nowadays, but in my opinion, nothing beats, ‘prevention is the best medicine’. Staying away from addictive substances is the best way to go.
