Getting back the tempo.

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Good grief I haven’t touched my Japanese study books for a week now. Once you’ve lost the momentum it can be a little difficult to get back the pace. Although the short holiday we had isn’t a luxurious one like living in Las Vegas’s Caesars Palace or Riviera hotel but I already am missing it. Living in the country with basic comfort can be a little difficult. But I felt somewhat relaxed and further we had to work hard cleaning and keeping the house warm with an old stove it was like an adventure for a change. :) Too bad though that my other half can’t stand the life there, not because of the work, but the allergy attack is worst for him there.

Anyhow, it is really time that I should catch up with my language studies. I don’t want to be forgetting what I’ve learnt so far now, do I??

Music.

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Music for the entire family seems to me is the thing of the past. I cannot even watch MTV music videos when my little 3 year old is around. There are simply too much ‘sex’ in music these days.

20-30 years ago, I believe the entire family could sit in front of the tv, young and old, and enjoy good clean music.

Weight control with affirmations.

Friday, June 12th, 2009

There was a point in my life as a teenager, I simply didn’t notice that I had gained so much of weight. I was slightly less than 5′ 4 but weighted nearly 70 kgs (about 154 lbs). That is way above the normal weight range.

Regardless of what ever I did, although I didn’t gain more, I just couldn’t get my weight down. Those days it wasn’t as easy to get safe diet pills like Phenphedrine, lipovox, anoretix, etc, like nowadays.

So I started to do a little  mind work. Affirmation and visualisation. My main affirmation is , “I am not hungry”. So that I don’t feel like eating. I’ve read some articles regarding this affirmation. They say that due to the word ‘hungry’ in it, some people may even gain more because their mind tend to focus more on that word and they do become hungry all the time. But to each his own. It worked for me. Years later I am still using the affirmation and I am at my lowest weight. I’m about 50 kgs now (110 lbs) at 5′ 4.

There are people who said that affirmation does not work on them. Perhaps they just haven’t found the right affirmation for themselves.

Here are a few affirmations that you may try for weight lost.

I’m losing weight now.
I love the feeling of making progress.
I love the food that makes me thin.
Losing weight is effortless.
I am going to fit into the next size smaller any minute.
I enjoy being healthy.
I feel so thin inside, my outer is just about to catch up.
Everyday, I’m becoming healthier and slimmer.

In addition to the affirmations, visualize yourself in the body that you want o be. Be realistic though. :) When you visualize, think that getting that body you want is not hard, and feel how happy you are at the thought.

One method may work for one, may not work for another. It all depends on you.

A great man will always be remembered.

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

An old malay saying goes like this, “When a tiger dies, it will leave its stripes. When a man dies, he will leave his name”.  A wonderful person will always be remembered even long after he is no more.

I finished watching ‘Gone with the Wind’ for the umpteenth time. It is indeed a legendary movie that those who have seen it would usually remember it for as long as they live.

Ever since I watched the movie, I simply fell in love with Clark Gable’s acting and style. Amazing isn’t it? A man who has been long gone for nearly half a century can still make a deep impression in the hearts’ of those who watched his movies. It is no surprise why he got the title King of Hollywood as Elvis was the King of Rock n’ Roll.

Really is a sad thing that he died too soon. 59 is still considered too young to die. Well, as they say, life and death is out of our control, but at least he had left a legacy for all of us to remember him by.

Better display.

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

The type of shelving at the grocery store that I really dislike are the ones that are not suitable for the products on display. For instance big cartons of juice that they pack so tightly in a rather small shelf that you had to practically squeeze the carton out. Then if you sort of changed your mind then you would have a problem to get the carton back into place again. Not sure what others feel about this, but to me, it is sure annoying. I really don’t know how those employees managed to shove those cartons or boxes into tight  shelves in the first place. Guess one needs to have the right special skill to get cartons off tight shelves , huh?

It is not like they cannot get different display shelves for different product types and sizes. There is an online store that purveys all sorts of display  or showcase options – gondola shelving, wall mounts uprights, gondola and peg baskets, peg hooks, and more – mfried.com. They have been selling and installing gondola shelving for nearly 20 years now and has become the largest stocking distributor of gondola displays in the Northeast of the United States. So no surprise how they happen to offer many showcase options.

They don’t seem to be showing the prices of the gondola shelves right on their website but you can ask for a price quote quite easily just by filling up a simple form right from the product information page. That way I think you will be able to get the exact customized information that you need to know.

Proper display shelves would really make shopping experience a lot more pleasant ( well besides cheaper prices and also great customer service that is). I for one would definitely appreciate it if I don’t have to work hard just to get a carton of juice easily off the shelf.

Dying my hair.

A couple of weeks ago, while shopping for the weekly groceries, I wondered off to the personal hair care area in the shopping centre and saw Garnier’s home hair dyes on sale. Just out of whim I grabbed a box. Since my hair is black I got the the most blond shade I could find. The result would be darkish brown.

The last time I ever dyed my hair was when I was…. 15?? That is a very long time ago. That time my late mom did it for me. Now, I’d have to ask my significant other to lend me a hand if I need help.

At home, I opened the box, checked the content. The same sort of things you’d expect in any home hair dye boxes I suppose. 1 bottle and a packet of creams for mixing, hair conditioner for after you washed the dye out, and also a pair of plastic disposable gloves.

The box is still waiting for me on the dresser top. I don’t dare to dye my hair just yet. Thinking perhaps it is better for me just to go to the dresser to do it.

I know I will do it one day, but will have to wait and see then.

All sorts of chat rooms out there.

Monday, June 8th, 2009

When I first started chatting which was in 1997, there were only a few popular chatrooms around. I used to love Microsoft comic chatroom. It was where I first met my significant other.

About 12 years later, there are so many chatrooms for all sorts of people and interests available. Chatroom for singles, for married people, for asians, for vampire fans, etc. Many of them are free to join.

The latest chatroom I’ve come upon is called ‘thug chat‘. I guess it is where the thugs wannabes, amateur thugs, professional thugs, and self-proclaimed thugs hang out. This too is free to join. In case you’re curious you can check it out at thugchat.org.

Comfy living rooms.

Monday, June 8th, 2009

A living room isn’t call a living room for nothing. It is the room where we actually ‘live’ in as a family most of the time. It is also a place where we usually entertain our friends or guests. That is why some people do focus more on getting comfortable Living Room Furniture.

I’ve been wanting to get a couple of bean bags for the living room. Though not now since we need the space for the little one to run about. But we will definitely get one… or two,  one of these days.

Just saw a few awesome looking bean bags that look  really comfortable on spacify.com – an online furniture store that focuses on contemporary or modern designed home furniture.

Most bean bags I’ve seen look like this.

But something like this would be better.

Or this one.

They all look  so cosy and comfy, I just would not be able to imagine how one would not need bean bags in one’s living room.

Spring vacation.

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

We just came back from a short Spring vacation in the country. About an hour plus drive away from the capital city and half an hour away from the neighbouring country.

Although the weather may not be as warm as we expected but it was still lovely. The crops and wild flowers are in abundance and seems to be doing pretty well.

Photobucket

The view were equally as lovely. At times I do feel envious of those people who actually get to call the place their home. But perhaps they themselves feel envious of those who live in the city. As they say, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”.

Photobucket

My significant other did say that we could always move to the country side if we ‘desperately’ want to. Sounded awesome, but then again, when I think about all those packing and the long distance moving process that we may have to go through all over again… perhaps it is much better where we are right now. Further, we can always go back to the country anytime we want. Get the best of both the city and the country. So why bother moving right?? :)

The short vacation was great while it lasted. Will be back there again hopefully this Summer.
