Eat healthier but not cheaper.

Friday, August 29th, 2008

The title of this post is the exact title of the latest dneero conversation I just joined. The discussion is about whether people eat less healthy food because they are expensive.

Come on…. when food prices were low, people were still getting fat. It’s not because of the food price, it’s because people are too lazy to cook or prepare the food, people want things fast. That’s why they eat a lot of junk. Unhealthy eating problem exists everywhere around the world. Regardless of the Economical situation of the country.

Those who are in a poverty stricken country could not afford to buy healthy food because, well… they are poor. What excuse can those in a well off country use??

People are always finding excuses for their unhealthy eating problems. Sickness, addiction, depression… etc. And now since prices of things are up, they want to put the blame on the price.

Death is unpredictable.

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I came across this youtube video about a Hungarian football player, Miklós Fehér who died suddenly in a football match. He was given a yellow card, he smiled, then he bent over, and collapsed backwards and died. I know he was not the only football player who died a sudden death due to a heart failure. But just take this one as an example. It is shocking to watch somebody die right in front of your eyes. This happened 4 years ago when he was 25. Poor guy.

He was young and healthy. Well you assume an athlete must be healthy. One minute he was there smiling the next, he is lying dead on the ground.

I have a relative whom the doctor predicted to breathe his last breath last year the most. Due to his heart problems. Gave him 5 years max to live. That was about 6 years ago. He is 65 now. Yet, he defied the doctor’s prediction. Which doctor would have predicted that a young man of 25, healthy and strong would die of a heart attack?

Life is simply unpredictable. Really sad actually. We plan so much, we expect so much to happen in our lives. But who knows whether we live or die tomorrow. So I guess it is true that we all actually live for today.

Why people are so into the US Presidency election?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

I joined this survey at dneero, asking what people think about Obama choosing Biden as his vice president if he wins the election. I am not really into politics, because regardless of what people say, I think Politics is a dirty game. You need to do just about anything to win. Give empty promises, be a hypocrite etc. Give people high hopes, but in the end they let you down. Perhaps not all, but enough to describe politician in general that way.

Though this is a presidency election in the U.S, it is widely spoken of all over the world. I once asked somebody who were talking about this topic to me. I plainly asked, “This is in the US, you are not a U.S citizen. What does the election in some other part of the world got to do with you?” I believe it is not only him, many people wanted to know the outcome. His answer was, it is exciting. This time it is very very different. First, a woman tried for the presidency, now a black American man, whose father was from Kenya. He even has a half brother still living in slum somewhere there. Interesting enough for me, who doesn’t give much for politics to read about it once in a while. :)

Cheap reliable hosting - Newgenerationhosting.com review.

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Thought I’d share this. I have been using this particular hosting for nearly a month. Not too long, but so far I am satisfied. You need to know that they did not pay me to write for this post. What ever opinion I have is thoroughly mine. I might change my opinion later, but as of now this is what I think of their service. If I do change my opinion, then I would later write a post on that. So I will keep my reviews up to date.

Now the hosting that I am using to host this blog and also another personal blog of mine is Newgenerationhosting.com. It is an India based hosting who has been in the business for 5 years now. They have 2 url that direct to the same website. If you check this domain, they only registered this year if I’m not mistaken. If you check whois another url they use to redirect, ngh.in, yes it shows that the domain has been around for 5 years. I did my little research on this before I choose. Not to mention reviews after reviews. Though they don’t have many reviews to back them up, I gave the service a shot.

Now for the packages. What I like about the offers is that, you can pay monthly, unlimited add on domains, unlimited MySQL database. They have 4 packages. Starter, Economy, Business, Enterprise. I took the starter package since I only host blogs on it. 500 mb, with 10 gb bandwidth per month. How much? $1.49 per month. Cheap. Though I know you can find all those offers, unlimited space, unlimited bandwidth for as low as $4 or so, but who needs that big a space? Unless if you host a website that needs lots and lots of space. If you just want to host a couple of blogs. You don’t need that many space really. If in any case you need to upgrade, saw that to upgrade was pretty easy. Since I only pay monthly, in case the next month I need bigger space I just upgrade. For now, let me pay less than $2 a month. If you want to know more about the prices, check out on the website.

Now about the reliability part. I chat with the customer service. Though not there all the time, but at least I can see that a customer rep. is there, online. Once I submitted a support ticket, the person replied promptly and with good English. So far no downtime yet.

If you tell me you can get a free webhost for as much space, I tell you this, I’ve tried one free webhost. The one that you can see advertise through adsense. The funny thing was, I couldn’t access my blog. Why? I read on the forum, seemed like not only I had the problem, that it may be that my ISP blocked the IP of the host. Well, nothing can prevent this kind of thing to happen even to this hosting that I’m using. True. But at least, I can complain. The other one, is free. I cannot complain for a FREE service. At least that’s my opinion.

As of now, this is my review of the host. As I said, I will keep it up to date.
